The End and the Beginning

“If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”(James 4:15; NKJV)

This week marks the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011, “if the Lord wills.” As the year of our Lord 2010 ends, let us reflect on the abundance of blessings the Lord has showered on us. God was so good to us in so many ways in the past year. Count some blessings and give Him the glory! But, let us not dwell on the past year. Let us forget “those things that are behind” and reach “forward to those things that are ahead” (Philippians 3:13).

Days of Prosperity. There were good days in 2010. Days filled with new life, harvesting, healing, building up, laughter, dancing, gathering, embracing, gain, keeping, sewing, speaking, loving, and peace (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; NKJV). There are good days “under the sun.” “If the Lord wills,” there will be some good days in 2011 too.

Days of Adversity. There were bad days in 2010. Days filled with death, disappointment, killing, breaking down, weeping, mourning, casting away, distance, losing, throwing away, tearing, silence, hate, and war (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; NKJV). There are bad days “under the sun.” “If the Lord wills,” there will be some bad days in 2011 too.

Days Go By. Whatever filled your 2010 days they went by. Days of prosperity and days of adversity share that commonality. They go by. Whatever 2011 brings, remember, days go by.

Something Better. Better things await us. The Savior. Glorification. Seeing His face. Heaven. Spend some time over the next week thinking about what lies ahead. You’ll be glad you did.

And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.” (Revelation 21:6; NKJV)
